Why Creativity Makes us Insane

Below is a video of Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love talking about the mystery behind the creative process and how our fear gets in the way. It is a long video, 19 minutes but I promise you it is worth the watch because she is an eloquent speaker and the content is really good. Her comments about capturing creativity from something divine is complicated yet simple yet profound. I came across this video thanks to Liz Bur (@calinative) who is a new media consultant. I highly recommend her blog, it’s a good read.

This video resonates with something I recently read in Chris Brogan’s Trust Agents (Page 186) “But those who succeed tend to be the ones who allow themselves to fail.”  Seems like a good reason to conquer fear if you ask me. Often, we don’t know we have desire for something until we fail.

Let’s have a conversation about it below. I want to hear what you think. What are you passionate about and what is your creative outlet?
