Social media engagement down time = Relationships 101

Twitter was down today. I found out the details through a great blog post by my friend @philson over at RemainComm.com called “Social Media Takes a Break. He does a great job of getting the following message out. One true thing about marketing and communications is that relationships are still the same. The medium in which we manage them are what is new.  If you want to get your message out on Twitter, it has to start with engagement and putting valuable content out there your followers will appreciate.

Below is a diagram I put together that is a great visual about how your message on Twitter (or any social media platform) can spread.  I am in the process of obtaining adobe acrobat so for now the model is not as clear to read as I would like.

So I leave you with the following questions.

  • What do you want social media to do for you?
  • Ultimately, who do you want to reach?
  • How do you add value for your followers?
  • How do you engage people in social media?

Your followers are your influencers. Engage your influencers and they will help you get the message out. The good old fashion way to do business, ONE relationship at a time. Please share the answers to some of these questions below.
